Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is a tax paid when buying property or land in England and Northern Ireland above a certain price threshold. The tax is calculated on a tiered basis, similar to income tax.
First-time buyers pay no stamp duty on the first £425,000 of properties costing up to £625,000. Properties over £625,000 are taxed at standard rates.
